If you want bare skin around the ears for those months without giving up the curls or the hair at the nape, a burst is the compromise: the arc clears the hair where a cap presses, and the back keeps its weight.
The arc goes soft. The back doesn't.
The half-circle is the shortest part of the cut, so it loses its edge first; the length behind it looks deliberate for a good while longer. Want the curve crisp all the time? Plan the trips closer together. Fine with a softer arc? It still reads as a burst well after the skin has grown in.
