What Happens During a Men's Facial (and How Often to Get One)
A men's facial at my shop happens right in the barber chair, tipped back, and takes 30 min or 40 min depending on which one you book. Either way you get a facial massage, warm steam, gentle exfoliation and a hydrating moisturizer.
On top of that shared base, the Express Facial ($30) includes a deep cleanse, and the Deluxe Facial ($40) brings in advanced skin treatments plus an anti-aging serum. Below is each step, what separates the two, and how to think about how often to come in for one.
From steam to moisturizer.
What happens, in the order you feel it.
Recline
You lean back in the chair and settle in. There's nothing to prepare and nothing to change into. If your skin has been irritated or touchy lately, tell me before we start.
Facial massage
Both facials include a massage across the face. It's slow, steady pressure, and it's usually where the day's tension starts to let go.
Warm steam
Warm steam is aimed at your face while you lie back. The photo at the top of this post catches that moment: a client reclined, steam drifting across his face.
Cleanse and exfoliate
On the Express, this is where the deep cleanse comes in. Both facials include gentle exfoliation. Gentle is the word that matters: this is a reset, not a scrub-down.
Treatments and serum
The Deluxe adds advanced skin treatments and an anti-aging serum. That extra layer is most of what the additional minutes on the Deluxe are for.
Moisturize
Every facial closes with a hydrating moisturizer, so you sit up with skin that feels comfortable rather than stripped. In a climate as dry as ours, that last step earns its place.

There's no clock running on it.
A haircut tells you when it's time: the edges blur and the shape goes soft. A facial doesn't send that kind of signal, so how often you book one is your call, not a schedule I'm going to hand you from a blog post.
Two simple ways to think about it. Book one ahead of something that matters, like a wedding, an interview, a holiday photo or a night out. Or fold it into a visit you're already making, so your skin gets attention on the same trip your hair does.
