Beard Fade: Blending Your Beard into Your Fade
A beard fade takes the sideburn down gradually so the fade on the side of your head runs straight into your beard, with no hard break where hair stops and beard starts. At my shop it's booked as the Signature Cut, $65 for 45 min, which puts the haircut and the beard in one appointment.
Here's where the blend happens, how it changes with your fade and your beard, and what to tell me so it comes out the way you picture it.
Where hair meets beard.
It all happens at the sideburn.
Your fade gets shorter as it goes down the side of the head. Your beard gets longer as it goes down the jaw. The sideburn is where those two meet, and if nobody blends it, you get a ledge: short hair ending abruptly and thick beard starting right under it.
A beard fade removes that ledge. The sideburn is shortened in steps, from the length of the fade into the length of the beard, so the eye moves from scalp to cheek without a jump.
In the photo at the top, the side is faded high to skin, a razor line sits above the ear, and the full beard below is squared off at the jaw. The connection runs through the sideburn in between.
Two choices set the look.

High fade or low fade
A high fade leaves more bare skin above the ear, so the sideburn has to carry a bigger change, from nothing to full beard. A low fade keeps more hair on the side of the head, and the connection is shorter and softer.
Short beard or full beard
A short, even beard joins the fade with the least fuss. A full beard, like the one in the photo, makes the transition a feature of the cut, so the sideburn needs more careful steps.
Fading the beard too
Some people want the beard itself to fade: shorter on the cheek, fuller at the chin. If that's the look, bring a photo, so we agree on where the length should start to build.

Before the clippers come out.
How high the fade goes, how much length the beard keeps, and whether the cheek line stays natural or gets a crisp edge. A clean cheek line and a sharp neckline are what make the connection look intentional.
Growing the beard out? Say so. A beard that's still filling in may not have the length yet for a long blend, and keeping the fade a little lower buys it time to catch up.
Choose the Signature from the start rather than adding the beard on the day. The beard needs its share of the 45 min, and that time is only there if it's booked.

As the fade grows in, the sideburn fills and the connection softens. The beard keeps growing too, so the two slowly start to look like separate pieces again.
Trimming the beard at home is up to you, but leave the sideburn alone. Clippers on the blend are how a smooth connection turns into a step. When the side and the beard stop reading as one line, that's the cue to book.
